About Tau Beta Beta

Tau Beta Beta, Inc. is dedicated to providing college or vocational school scholarships to young women who are residents of Brookline, Newton, or Wellesley, Massachusetts. We award scholarships to four or five new applicants per year, and support normally continues through four years of college. Scholarships in excess of $60,000 in total are divided among fifteen or more women. Scholarships are based on merit and financial need.

Tau Beta Beta is a non-profit 501(c)(3) membership organization. All members are volunteers and member contributions are the source of our scholarship funds.

History

Tau Beta Beta, Inc. was founded in 1898 as a social club. In 1908, it was decided to have a charitable purpose and a scholarship was awarded to a Brookline High School student. In 1922 the society was incorporated. By 1938, scholarships were also given to residents of Newton and Wellesley. Today, the members of Tau Beta Beta meet six times a year and continue to support the Scholarship Program both with financial support and with interest in the recipients’ achievements during their four years of scholarship aid.
